Questions to Ask a Computer Repair School Before You Put Down your Money

December 31st, 2008

Most people realize that getting good training from a computer repair school for a task is a smart thing to do. Choosing a computer repair school that gives you bad training on the other hand can lead to much frustration. Avoiding a negative experience comes down to asking the right questions.

How long have you been in business? This is the first question to ask. You don’t want to be a guinea pig for a school. If this is the first or second year of operating for them, keep looking. I know someone has to be first and you are probably going to get a lower tuition rate but it isn’t usually worth the risk. Running a training school isn’t for the faint of heart. There are lots of lessons to be learned. Why let them learn those lessons on you?

How many people in the program I’m planning to take have found jobs in the last year? A good computer repair school will be happy to provide you with numbers. Even better is if they are willing to provide you with references including names and phone numbers. Unless you plan on opening your own business, knowing there will be a job for you at the end of your training is important. Don’t overlook this part of your research. If they give you names to call, call them. While you have these references on the phone, ask them about the school. What they liked and what they didn’t like. Better yet, ask them whether the training they received from the school was worth the price they paid for their training.

How much real life experience do my teachers have in the field? You don’t want to get theory only. You need some practical advice to go along with that theory. Sometimes, you may find their practical advice being worth a lot more than their theoretical knowledge.

Why should I enroll in your course of study over another training company’s program? Asking this question can help you identify the particular strengths of the training school you’re examining. Keep in mind though that the answer to this question will usually be a sales pitch. Do some outside research to verify any information the school gives you.

Vacation Rentals You Get What You Paid For!

December 29th, 2008

When it comes to taking a vacation and staying in a privately owned vacation rental property you need to know what you are paying for. Cheaper does not always mean you are getting a great deal with safe and secure accommodations. The three questions I continually get from my inquiries are:
Is the rental unit in a safe and secure place?
Is the rental unit clean?
Are the units and appliances in good condition?

The last inquiry stated that they had some bad experiences on two separate occasions with vacation rental they had stayed at. I asked them about how much they had paid for the units and in both instances they were charge very little for the accommodations. They are now doing their homework and where inquiring and asking the right questions now.

When you are looking for a vacation rental the last thing you should be looking for is a cheaply priced rental. First look for a vacation rental that has spent the money to market themselves, this usually means they have also spent the money on the rental unit. A nice website with pictures of the units and information about the amenities in the unit, the area and about the owners is always a good choice.

Make sure you see lots of pictures of the unit both inside and out, pictures of each of the rooms and the bathrooms are a must. Ask what the amenities are, if they have a website they should all be listed. You can ask about how often the unit is cleaned and about their maintenance schedule. Never rent from someone that only has one picture of the rental unit, this just means they made sure that room was cleaned and prepared for the photo; you need to view all the rooms and know what you are getting for your money.

Always look for owners that take the time to call and speak to you, this usually means they want to know who you are and who it is that wants to stay in their vacation home.
A concerned owner who calls and asked you questions is one that cares for his property and who he rents to. They are qualifying you for the rental and at the same time you should be asking them questions you may have about the unit, the area and the process.

Make sure they have a contract with rules and regulations clearly written so that you understand them. Check and make sure you read and understand their refund and damage policy for missing or lost items in the unit. Absentee owners should have a management person who will greet and give you a walk through of the unit and provide you with a phone number you can reach them at. You should look for vacation rental units that prohibit smoking in the units and do not allow pets. Both of these are for health reasons that you should be concerned with.

Once you do find a great vacation rental owner who has a clean, safe and secure unit with all the amenities and shows that they take care of the place. Give them a call once you return home and let them know you enjoyed staying in their place. Give them a testimonial as your appreciation. If you plan on visiting the same area again next year speak to them about holding that week or two and make arrangements now, chances are you can negotiate the same price and avoid any price increases.

The best reward a property owner can receive is your recommendation, so refer your family, friends and co-workers that you know and trust will be good renters and take care of the place the same way you did. Owners have found that referrals from guest who took care of the units are their best referrals.

Like anything else in life doing your homework, asking the right questions is your best bet to getting the best deal for your money and most imprortant, a safe and secure place to spend your vacation both for you and your family.

Albert Rios has worked in the financial arena for over thirty years, now retired he manages a few vacation rental properties in Dorado Puerto Rico, Villas de Costa Mar, his little piece of paradise as he calls it. http://www.villasdecostamar.com

Harvey’s Casino Resort in South Lake Tahoe

December 29th, 2008

South Lake Tahoe, especially the Nevada side has really interesting architecture. It tries to recreate the Las Vegas experience within a half mile stretch. Tall hotel towers, bright lights, glitter and gamblers. Harvey’s Casino Resort is located right on the border with California so many people cross over from the quaint California side (just across the street) to try their luck. We stayed at Harvey’s in the middle of May ….

Our room had outstanding views. Lake Tahoe in all its glamour with surrounding forests and snow capped mountains. I found myself staring at this wonderland all the time … Hotel room was decent. Clean and modest. Moving through the hotel though did not give me a Lake Tahoe experience at all. Air inside the resort was very smoky. Everything had a gambling focus. With all this wonderful nature around us, we were completely isolated from it.

Staff was pleasant. Hotel was a bit dated though it seemed like they made the most of what they have. We did not try any restaurants here.

The highlight of the entire trip included being far away from any urban areas. Lake Tahoe is so beautiful and offers such variety of activities that once you are here the last thing I would recommend is to hang around your hotel and inhale cigarette smoke. On our next visit we will probably to stay on the California side in a smaller hotel/motel.

Start Making Money Online-How tos

December 27th, 2008

So you’ve decided to start an online business. Before you start having those big cash flow dreams, stop and get some tips for having an online business. There are many internet information resources for doing this sort of thing. You will succeed, but you must remain Focused, and dedicate time to it every day.

Here are some tips on how to start making money online.

It takes time and work to build a business anywhere. If you want to build a business, you will have to be willing to research and be patient. Nothing happens instantly and no one is going to hand you the silver platter with all the answers to make money online.

There is a lot of writing that goes into an online business. Write a business plan and revise that plan periodically. Your business plan should be thought of as a living document. As with any business, you will initially find out what works and what does not work and will have to change your plan accordingly.

Always own your own Website, so that you can change and adapt to your market.

Be very careful about buying web space and pre-packaged website templates for your business. You’ll find that down the road it will be difficult to change the site plus get source code to it. You need to be reasonable with yourself, and learn patience. It’s better outsourcing the web design with a freelancer and purchasing your own domain and installing the site yourself in some cases to make money online. If you need there are several free sources on the Internet that you can learn.

Run your online business like a business. You will need to discipline yourself with working hours to take care of all offsite matters because you will have them. A lot of people make the mistake of treating their internet business merely as a website, which can be very detrimental because running an online business requires an approach that you would have with an offline business.

Once you have your site built and online, your next job will be to let the world know you are there. This is the biggest job there is to make money online. It is a never ending task. No one will even know your site exists if you don’t work on promoting it. Your marketing plan needs to include search engine optimization (SEO). This is important because you want your site to rank in the top 10 of search engine query results. You would be wise to study SEO techniques or hire the services of a SEO consultant.

Some other marketing ideas to make money online include posting your web address on the back windshield of your vehicle or coordinating with other websites to include a back link to your site. Word of mouth is always one of the best tools for advertising your site. With the advent of Google Adwords, Overture and other similar advertising, it is possible to drive targeted traffic to your site by finding keywords that have very low bids. You will be able to measure your conversion ratio of such traffic with sales in real-time.

These are the basic things that are needed to make money online. If any of these things are missing there could be lost information or inefficiency in how the online business works.

You will find that in the course of your new online business that the money is first-rate for the amount of time you invest into it. The great thing about your online income is that it helps pay the monthly bills. Since the Internet doesn’t discriminate against age, race or sex everyone can make money online. Best of luck.

Secrets to Easily Building Opt-In Lists

December 24th, 2008

The Internet is such a wild place. Everything seems to be maximizing its potential to reap results that are more positive because of the capability of the Internet to reach as many people as possible.

The Internet has also been a market where businesses transact and trade their products without having to do the usual type of trading and selling.

And because of the Internets wider reach, most people who tried their businesses online have succeeded. Thats why other people have tried to the easier way of earning money. The only problem is that unscrupulous people have found the Internet as a new breeding ground or their fraudulent activities. Thats why many scams and frauds had dominated the virtual community.

For this reason, people learned to protect themselves from these kinds of activities. Some of them send emails to different people enticing them to join a particular service or buy a particular product, only to find out that buying the product is not a good idea after all.

Because of the technological capability of the Internet, some people contend that there are businesses that have been prying on their private time in the Internet. They do not enjoy their privacy anymore because they receive tons of unsolicited emails or spams, pop-up advertisements, and numerous newsletters wherein they did not commit their selves into it.

Moreover, fraudulent activities like spam, is already punishable by law.

Hence, good businesses have realized that it is time to create a system of organized virtual community, where people learn to respect each others privacy.

For this reason, opt-in lists were created. With opt-in lists, businesses can still promote their product to people who are really interested with their business. They do not have to pry on someones property just to advertise.

With opt-in lists, they dont have to work extra hard just to send emails manually and carefully so that they will not gain the chance of meeting an irate consumer who do not want solicitations and advertisements.

Generally, opt-in lists are highly targeted lists that contain names and email addresses of people who opted to join and subscribe to your newsletter. In addition, the reason why they have decided to join your list is that they were satisfied and gratified with the information that you have provided them.

Hence, with opt-in lists, you were able to gain the trust of your would-be customers, that is why it is easier for them to patronize your product or services.

However, building an opt-in list is not that easy. In fact, you may even build an opt-in list but with the wrong target market. Thus, you can never use this list to promote your product.

Building an opt-in list entails a particular process wherein you must consider some factors in order to generate the results that you want. You should also give your readers or the visitors of your web site the reason why they should subscribe to your list.

Therefore, if you want to know how to easily build huge opt-in lists, heres how:

1. Provide something for free

Most people just love freebies. In fact, where there is a sale going on, people would flock to that area. By all means, they would purchase things that are relatively priced low or those that are given for free.

Hence, after generating a good traffic to your web site, it would be better to provide your visitors the freebies that would entice them to join your lists. Just make sure that these freebies are feasible items that they can have a good use of.

For example, you can create an ebook and give them away for free once your visitors have decided to subscribe to your list. Keep in mind that the ebook should be informative so that they would feel gratified with the things that they have acquired from you.

In this way, they will keep coming back to your web site, or even spread the good news and attract more people to join your list. This is now what you call viral marketing.

2. Give incentives

In order to attract people to subscribe to your opt-in list, try to offer some incentives. This could range from discounts on some of your items, or a free downloadable informative item that they can use like special reports or statistical data sheet where information about a particular survey is placed.

3. Provide easier opt-out

The important point in building massive opt-in list is to provide the people with easier opt-out process. In this way, the subscribers or consumers will feel that they are not being compelled and tied down to something that they will no longer want to patronize in the long run.

Hence, if they find it easier to opt-out, then, they might sign-up for your opt-in list.

Boiled down, choosing an opt-in list is one of the best concept of earning profits without having to pry on other peoples privacy.

Hence, all of these things point out that the secret to building massive opt-in list is based on how you generate trust from your customers. Its because once you gain trust, it will be easier to build a huge list that will definitely bring more money for your business.

Health Insurance for Canadian Immigrants

December 23rd, 2008

One of the first things you’ll want to do after arriving is apply for health insurance cards for every member of your family. Applications are available in many places, including doctor’s offices and pharmacies. These cards allow you to receive care through the Canadian health insurance program for the following services:

Examination and treatment by physicians and most specialists

Many types of surgery

Hospitalization

X-rays and laboratory tests

Immunizations

You will not have to pay for these services, these expenses are covered by the taxes that you will be paying as a working Canadian permanent resident.

In most provinces in Canada , you can begin receiving medical coverage as soon as you apply. In Ontario , Quebec , New Brunswick , and British Columbia , however, you must wait 3-months from the date you apply for your coverage to begin. In the meantime, short-term health insurance is available through private companies.

You may also want to ask potential employers about their health coverage options as well. Many employers provide additional health insurance benefits that cover expenses, such as prescription drugs and dental care.

Social Insurance Number

Before you begin working in Canada , you need to have a Social Insurance Number (SIN). This 9-digit number is used to help you receive the social benefits you are entitled to as a Canadian permanent resident and to ensure that you are paying taxes to help support those benefits.

To apply for a SIN, you should visit a local office of the Human Resources and Skills Development (HRSD) to complete an application. You should also bring along your Permanent Resident card to proof your identity and your residency status.

The cost of application is $10, and it takes about three weeks for you to receive your card.

You can begin working before your receive your SIN card, however. You simply need to provide your employer with proof that you have applied.

Employment

In most cases, you will also want to begin searching for work almost immediately. It is possible to have a position lined up even before you apply for permanent resident status, but chances are that you’ll be unemployed when you first arrive.

Depending on the type of work you are searching for, you may first need to apply for permission to engage in that profession. In Canada , some careers are classified as regulated fields. These fields included doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc. In order to obtain work in these areas, you will need to contact the regulatory office in the province where you intend to work. The regulations vary from province to province. The regulatory board will have to evaluate your experience and credentials then decide whether you need to take further steps to meet their standards.

Some trades, such as carpenter or plumber, are also considered to be regulated. Therefore, you must make sure that you have the appropriate licensing before attempting to work in those fields. Carpentry and plumbing, as well as 43 other trades, are considered Red Seal Trades. This means that the regulations for that trade are the same in all provinces. Therefore, if you are a licensed welder in Quebec , you can also do that type of work in New Brunswick without having to go through another assessment.

Fortunately, the majority of jobs in Canada are non-regulated, so you can begin searching for a position in your chosen field as soon as you arrive.

One of the best ways to find a position in Canada is to use the Job Bank service. This online site allows you to post up to 3 employee profiles that can be viewed by employers. You can also view postings placed by employers throughout Canada . The daily newspapers in all of the provinces also include job listings.

Is Your Website a Warty Toad?

December 22nd, 2008

Unfortunately, many business owners do not harness the full power of their website. Instead, companies allow their website to stagnate, festering in its own little virtual swamp. It sits there day after day, never changing…a poor little web-toad, never to become a prince.

To prevent your website from facing this pathetic future, take a good hard look at it. It just might be time for you to give that warty toad an extreme makeover. Redesign your website…the kiss that will make it princely. Instead of languishing in a boggy quagmire, your website can feature ever-changing content and graphics, working for you to bring in new and repeat business.

Okay, so now you are probably thinking… “Do I have a warty-toad website? Ew! Yucky!” So, here are some questions to help you figure out if your website needs a royal transformation:

1. Is your website achieving your desired marketing goals?

2. Are you pleased with its look?

3. Does your site get a steady flow of visitors?

4. Is your website designed for maximum search engine optimization?

5. Do visitors return to your site repeatedly?

6. Was your website developed in the last two years?

7. Is your site easy to navigate?

8. Does your website have compelling, sales-oriented content?

If you answer “no” to any of these questions, you MAY have a toad on your hands. Work with a professional web designer to create a website prince. Determine the functions that are important to you. Examples include: e-commerce, a blog, events calendar, online portfolio, and so on.

ACTION ITEMS: Review your website and work through the above questions. Start a list of features you would like to have included in your site. Then, when you meet with your web designer, you will be able to effectively plan your new site. {SMOOCH!} Your toad is transformed!

Cancun, Mexico – A Little Something For Everyone

December 18th, 2008

A sleepy island area in the 1970s, Cancun has been transformed into a mega tourist destination. Located on the Caribbean side of Mexico, this resort area has something for everyone.

Cancun

Make no mistake, Cancun is a very tourist friendly destination. Located on the Yucatan peninsula, Cancun is populated with mega resorts and over 20,000 hotel rooms. The economy is based on tourism and the people go out of their way to show tourists a good time.

Cancun proper is actually two distinct areas. Cancun City is located on the mainland and Cancun Island is just off the coast. The island is the stuff of legend.

Cancun Island the classic example of Caribbean beach paradise. Incredibly blue water laps slowly onto insanely white beaches. Light breezes roll in off the water as you lounge on a beach chair and contemplate important things like what you will eat for lunch.

One of the slight downsides of Cancun involves beachfront hotels. They tend to be a bit possessive about the sand in front of them. Put another way, you better be staying at the hotel if you intend to plop down in front of it. Hey, it can’t all be great!

Getting To Cancun

As with any mega resort area, getting to Cancun is very easy. Most major airlines fly into Cancun City and the airport is very modern. You are required to have a passport and must fill out a tourist card at customs. The customs agents are easy going and I’ve never heard of anyone having any problems with them.

If you want to experience a beach vacation in Mexico, you can do worse than Cancun. You will not get much feel for the local culture, but you will definitely enjoy yourself.
