Case Study: Accusation Made against Northern General Hospital

January 2nd, 2010

End of life health care – or palliative care – is any type of medical treatment or support which focuses on scaling down the severity of disease symptoms, instead of endeavoring to check, or reverse progression of the disease. The goal is to prevent and/or palliate the pain and discomfort while bettering the quality of life for people facing up to critical, complex illness.

Even so, not all palliative care organizations are the same, and there has been plenty of rumours – and evidenced cases – of neglectfulness (and sometimes mistreatment) taking place in care centres that lead to people enduring significant pain and discomfort over sustained periods of time. For instance an allegation is made against Northern General Hospital who are charged with negligence with a particular patient they were looking after, with inside information of correspondences with the sufferer’s daughter and the hospital.

So we cannot be complacent when putting our loved ones in the charge of others – family and friends of a patient ought to be vigilant and ensure their family member or friend receives professional attention.

Should your friend or family member be receiving health care under the National Health Service, there’s also an NHS complaints procedure you can utilise if you want to make a complaint.
