Employee Receives Compensation for Workplace Accident

Although the fracture healed, he could no longer find similar work as his work involved finesse and dexterity. He thus shifted to an administrative post and then became a tenancy support worker with Gateshead Council. The accident not only made Mr. Turpin, who worked for Nissan for over 14 years, lose his job but also left him with a disfigured and weak finger for life.
According to the Thompson Solicitors, who argued the case for Mr. Turpin, the employers should have ensured that the ice had been cleared and that there was sufficient light at the exit points. The employers admitted their fault and reached an out-of-court settlement with Mr. Turpin. The actual amount has not been revealed but is believed to be in the six-figure bracket.
The Regional Secretary of the employee’s union Unite, Davey Hall said that during winter, employers should put additional safeguards in place to avoid accidents like this and to ensure employee safety.
