Finnish Travel

August 25th, 2009

With its pristine lakes, lush archipelagos, and vast but beautiful wilderness, Finland is an environmental haven.
Combine that with a diverse selection of museums and cafes, capital city Helsinki’s lively jazz festivals and the country’s penchant for a wide variety of outdoor sports and often eclectic activities, and you’ve got a country that will satisfy adventure-seekers and culture enthusiasts alike. Nature and sports buffs can go dog-sledding, skiing, and watch reindeer races in the snow-covered, wild Laplands, and people who prefer to enjoy a quieter vacation can relax in one of the many cafes and churches or simply treat themselves to an awesome view from a lakeside cottage.
Finnish cuisine is healthy and generally consists of foods containing berries, vegetables, fish, and even grilled reindeer. Picky eaters need not worry, though–Finland is home to restaurants that serve a variety of delicious foods.
Although Finland travel is not cheap, travelers can reduce the cost by staying in hostels or cabins and by preparing foods themselves. Finland uses the euro for currency.
European Union nations can use an indentity card or passport to enter Finland, but people from all other countries need a valid passport. Many flights to Finland are available, and once in the country, ferries, buses and trains provide travelers with an easy way to explore the country.
